I Want To Be A Nimrod

Cush was the father of Nimrod; he began to be a valiant warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. (That is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.”) The primary regions of his kingdom were Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city Calah. (Gen. 10:8-12)

This morning as I continued reading through the book of Genesis I came across these verses which briefly describe the character and accomplishments of Nimrod. Not only was he a great warrior and hunter, but he was also a builder. Wow, what a combination. Most people would be happy to be one or the other, but for me, I want to be all of the above.

This morning I really look at this as it might relate to me as a business owner. There are aspects of our business which involve "hunting". We are always looking for the next possible project, job lead, customer and anything we can find to help make our business profitable. The other aspect is that of building the business and seeing it grow and prosper.

This past year we saw our business experience some incredible growth in numbers compared to the previous year... well at least for the first 8 months of the year. Then during the past 4 months we've experienced a real slow down in business. The temptation is to pull back, cut back and slow down. For some reason reason, God didn't make me that way. I'm always thinking foward. I have a growth mindset.

Like Nimrod, I know I need keep that valiant warrior/hunter mindset... but not just a mindset, it needs to be translated into real action. Today I'm taking steps to sharpen my hunting skills. Today I re-evaulated my goals and efforts to meet those goals. Today I take a sword and a hammer to fight and to build.
